Playgrounds in the past followed a set formula of steel and plastic with a slide and rubber soft fall. This offered little variety for children hungry to try a new challenge and adventure. Now playgrounds have ventured into new designs such as nature play, loose parts play based on Reggio Emilia philosophy and parkour Ninja warrior courses.
There is scope for playgrounds to go even further into new territory.
